Online leadership workshop

Trapped by empathy?

How to hold your team accountable without feeling like the villain

30 September 2026
9:30AM (UK BST) / 6:30PM (SYD AEST)

"I don't want them to resent me."You can read a room. You notice when someone is struggling. You're the kind of leader people actually want to work for. But it's making your life harder. You soften feedback so it won't sting, but the message never quite lands. You pick up the slack. You put off the conversation you know you need to have, because being direct feels like it will cost you the relationship.Empathy is a strength. But it only becomes a superpower when it's paired with the ability to hold people accountable.Otherwise, it becomes a trap, for you and your team.Join me online to turn your empathy into a real leadership superpower. You'll leave with:- Clarity on why softening backfires.
- Why the kindest intentions often make things harder.
- A simple way to set clear expectations.
- The words to be warm and honest, without softening the message until it disappears.
- Your plan for the conversation you've been avoiding. You'll draft it during the session and take it away with you.

Questions?

Tell me more about what I'll learn during this workshop?
You'll learn why softening your message often makes things harder, not kinder, and why the leaders people respect most manage to be both warm and firm.
We'll cover how to set clear expectations before the work starts, so standards never come as a surprise. You'll learn how to give honest feedback when something falls short, without damaging the relationship, and how to hold people accountable consistently and fairly. You'll leave with a plan and the opening words for a real conversation you need to have with someone in your team. Will I have the chance to ask questions?
Yes. This is a small, interactive group, so there's space to ask questions and hear how other leaders are handling the same challenge.
Is this relevant if I run my own business?
Yes. Whether you manage a team inside an organisation or lead your own business, the challenge is the same: holding a standard with people you care about.
Will the session be recorded?
Yes - if you attend, you will be given access to the recording.
How do I arrange my 1:1 call?
After registration, you'll receive a link to schedule your call at a time that suits you.
What if I can't make the scheduled time?
Drop me a message to [email protected] and we can discuss an alternative, so you still get the full benefit of the session.
